Student Life: Innovation Through Food & Nutrition

At Lakewood Schools, learning comes alive when our students are given the opportunity to explore, create, and present their ideas. Our Grade 6 learners recently impressed the entire school community with a Food & Nutrition science project that combined creativity, health awareness, and scientific understanding.

The project focused on creating balanced meal plans using locally available foods. Learners researched nutritional values, identified food groups, and worked in teams to design sample meals that were not only healthy but also affordable for families. Some groups even prepared simple dishes, showcasing practical cooking skills alongside scientific knowledge.

What made this project outstanding was how the students connected classroom lessons to real-life application. They confidently explained the role of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals in supporting a healthy lifestyle, and emphasized why good nutrition is essential for both children and adults. Their ability to combine research, presentation, and teamwork made the showcase both inspiring and educational.

This project highlighted the strength of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in developing practical skills, creativity, and critical thinking. We are proud of our Grade 6 learners for showing that science is not just about experiments in a lab, but also about improving lives through informed choices in everyday living.

At Lakewood Schools, we continue to celebrate projects that nurture curiosity, encourage innovation, and empower our learners to think globally while acting locally.
